Repinning Kits & Security Pins
Every pin tumbler lock can be taken apart: push the plug out with a follower (so the driver pins and springs stay in the housing), swap the key pins and drivers with tweezers, and push the plug back. Locksmiths do it to change keys; locksport people do it to build practice locks. Install one spool pin and an easy padlock becomes an orange-belt lock. Install three serrated pins and it becomes green.
Euro cylinders (the most common door profile in Europe) and most brass padlocks with a removable plug. Our progressive locks and many cutaways are designed for it. Cheap laminated padlocks usually cannot be opened non-destructively — check the product page.
From orange belt on, the belt ranking is about security pins. Buying a new lock for every step gets expensive; repinning one good cylinder costs nothing after the kit. It also teaches you how locks work from the inside — the knowledge that lets you guess what a lock is doing when you cannot see it.
